A couple of years ago, I set out to write a Christmas-themed novella related to my Dear One series. Life happened; I was busy with family stuff and writing/editing other books, and though I had a name for the novella, and the first couple of paragraphs written, it sat on my hard drive until early November of this year. That’s when I decided, with copy edits on My One True Love completed and it in the hands of proofreaders, that this horrid year needed to end better than it started. So…
I wrote, edited, revised, edited, and proofed (ahem), as fast as I could in hopes of sending the novella to my subscribers, as a gift on Christmas day. I missed the mark–by three days. It went out yesterday, and lo, I found typos after I’d sent it.
I’ve since corrected the typos I found, and sent corrected copies to my subscribers. I also put the novella up on all major online retailers for $2.99 US and $3.49 CAD.
Three Wishes, A Dear One Christmas is about grief, and coping with loss — and learning to live again. When I finished it, I knew immediately who I wanted to dedicate it to: my aunt Deidre, and my uncle Rod, each of whom lost their soulmates this year to different neurological diseases.
My mother-in-law is also living with a neurological disease: Alzheimer’s. It’s robbed her of her memory, and us, of her. This year has truly taken so much, from so many. We are all a wee bit worn down.
I would love to give my aunt, and my uncle, back their soulmates. I’d also love to give my husband and his sisters back their mother – I can’t. But I can honour their – and my – losses, by donating 5% of my annual book profits each year to: The Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health.
The Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health is powered by collaborative fundraising efforts through the UBC Faculty of Medicine, and the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation. The centre “helps researchers and clinicians work together to pioneer critical advances in patient care and research” into brain health (centreforbrainhealth).
Three Wishes, A Dear One Christmas was a gift to my subscribers, no strings attached. I did, however, let them know, that if they wished to pay it forward, they could A) write a review of the story on their favored ebook retailer’s website, and or, B) Donate to The Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health; I offer you the same opportunity.
The ebook version of Three Wishes, A Dear One Christmas, is available on all major online retailers now. A print book will come out in 2021. BUT…
If you sign up for my newsletter on or before December 31, 2021, I’ll gift you the book, too. You can sign up below:
