January is difficult for many people. Cold. Blustery. Short on daylight. It’s the trifecta of depression. Or SAD.
Seasonal Affective Disorder is no joke. It hampers some people’s ability to function. Insomnia. Fatigue. Apathy…
I used to be hit hard every winter. My mood sank in direct relationship to the declining hours of sunlight. My doctor recommended 2000iu of Vitamin D3 daily. I was half-hearted in remembering to take it. And since our move to the coast three years ago, I’ve not felt the need. Until I returned from Mexico last week.
In Mexico, I slept well. Despite the hard bed. Despite having to use earplugs. I attribute the change from a pattern through November and December of insomnia, to six nights of solid sleep in Mazatlan, to the sun. To Vitamin D.
I sleep well in summer. Not so in winter. The only difference is the amount of daylight and sun
exposure I get. So yesterday, Hubs hauled my Daylight lamp out of three years of storage and set it up on my desk. And I’m taking oral Vitamin D.
I’ll let you know how it goes.
